

Humphrey William Longard passed peacefully away January 7, 2026 at his home in Timberlea. Born on April 30, 1934 to Melvin and Bessie Longard, Humphrey was the youngest son and one of five siblings. Humphrey was a well-known local businessman and owner of H.W. Longard Enterprises Ltd., an excavation and heavy equipment company. He was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was also instrumental in the establishment of Sandy Lake Academy in Bedford and Parker Street Food & Furniture Bank in Halifax and spent many hours volunteering to ensure their success.
Humphrey was known for his generosity, his love of life and his love for his extended family. He shared his love of old cars with his older brother Marshall and spent many happy hours exploring all the backroads of Nova Scotia. If you were privileged to join Humphrey on one of his drives, he would regale you with the background and history on just about every building or piece of land you passed by.
Humphrey is predeceased by his beloved wife Edith (Loxdale), and his brother Marshall. He is survived by his sisters; Viola Ganz, BC; Mabel Bronstein, BC; and Glenna Doubleday, NS along with many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his wonderful caregivers Jenny Ross and Marion Girroir who lovingly cared for him. They made it possible for Humphrey to live out his days in his own home.
Visitation will take place at J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood, Halifax, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Wednesday January 14. A funeral service will be at the Tantallon Seventh-day Adventist Church,12494 Peggy’s Cove Road, Tantallon on January 15 at 1:00 pm with Pastors Sean Todd and David Crook officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in Humphrey’s memory can be made to Sandy Lake Academy, Bedford or Parker Street Food & Furniture Bank, Halifax.
