Ida Cesira Liberatore

Ida was born in Vestea, Italy to the late Alfonso and Beatrice Corsetti. Her mother died young, and she was lovingly raised by stepmother, Palma Corsetti. She was the eldest of six children. She came to Canada in 1956 and married Guido Liberatore in 1958 in Halifax. She worked in housekeeping at the Hotel Nova Scotian from 1956 to 1962, leaving the hotel once she started her family.

Ida dedicated her life to her family. She was a warm, loving wife and devoted mother of two children, Luciano and Mirella; she was especially devoted to her only grandchild, Alessandro. Ida loved to cook and take care of her family. Over the years, Ida had a strong passion for homemade Italian food, and instilled this passion in her two children. Her family and friends will miss her humility, her sincerity, her charming and wry sense of humour that was often accompanied with a shrug of the shoulders and a self-deprecating sigh or chuckle. Her smile will be missed the most.

Ida is survived by her husband of 58 years, Guido, her son, Luciano (Sherry Gardner), daughter, Mirella (Marco) LoPresti , and grandson, Alessandro LoPresti. She is also survived by sisters, Ines (Domenico) Sablone, Filomena (Liberato) Spensieri , Margarita (Leo) Benigno , Maria (Giovanni) Di Mattia; brother, Franco (Linda) Corsetti, and her many nieces and nephews; all residing in Halifax.

The family would like to sincerely thank her care workers, Carolyn and Tracy for their help and countless hours of dedication to her well being. We would also like to thank the Red Cross, and the medical staff of QEII Unit 8.4. Luciano and Mirella would like to acknowledge their father’s love, patience, and support for their mother during her struggle with dementia over the past several years.

Visitation will be on Sunday, December 18 between 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Agnes Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ida to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
