

Age 96, Irving passed away peacefully on May 25,2022 in Dykeland Lodge Nursing Home in Windsor, NS. Born in Halifax, NS on October 6,1925, he was a son of the late Roy Irving Balcom and Deborah Constance Hopkins [Crowell] Balcom. Irving’s loss will be felt by his nephews, Edwin, Mark and Michael Balcom, and cousin, Anna [Fillmore] Cruickshank of Toronto. -- Irving was a generous and kind soul, with aptitude to fix organs and pianos, an avid swimmer and always available to use his musical skills to touch and enrich the lives of countless people. -- In his early years he taught school, worked for Maritime Telephone Company and later spent many years repairing organs and pianos. He will long be remembered for his music and willingness to provide the joy of sound at every occasion, -- As a devote Christian, Irving spent his early years at First Baptist Church, Halifax, and then joined Bayers Road Baptist Church, a new emerging congregation, and for the next forty years provided leadership to the music ministry of the church. During this time, he led the Senior Choir and played for and supported The New Song Singers, Bell Choir and other groups. Upon his retirement, Irving was honoured as Organist Emeritus. -- In addition, Irving was well-respected as a member of the of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, and played piano for Arnie Benson Orchestra, Jubilee Boat Club, Seniors Homes, Simpson Christmas Sing Along and many other social gathers. -- In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bayers Road Baptist Church, 7077 Bayers Rd, Halifax, NS B3L 2C5 -- When we reflect on your spirit and service to others, we are proud, grateful, and beyond thankful for your life. -- Cremation has taken place. There will be a combined celebration of life and reception on June 23 at 1 PM at the Bayers Road Baptist Church, following with an interment service held at the Camp Hill Cemetery
