She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Dorothy (George) Blakeney, Truro and Eleanor (Walter) Brunt, Spryfield. She is predeceased by her first husband Lloyd Blakeney, and her second husband Ron Davison, and also by a sister, Rhoda Yeadon and brothers Bernard, Walter, Arthur and Raymond. She was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Stan Birch.
A strong, independent woman, her family was always of paramount value to her and she taught her children and grand-children the value of integrity, determination, and a strong will. Isabel grew up during the great depression, and one lesson that up-bringing taught her was the value of hard work. Isabel worked for the Registry of Motor Vehicle, Halifax in Investigation. During World War 2 she volunteered to circulate gas masks in the city of Halifax along with countless others, who helped to keep Halifax safe.
Isabel always enjoyed crafts – sewing, knitting, and quilting, and her provided each of her grand-children and great-grandchildren with a hand-made quilt with which they can cherish her memory. She was always active in the PTA and various church groups during her life. One of her greatest pleasures was playing Cribbage. At her last game of Cribbage (the day before going to the hospital), she won and was so excited. She enjoyed traveling and has been to both the East and West coast of Canada, as well as trips to Europe and cruises in the Caribbean Sea. She was always active in the St. Philips Anglican Church, and was one of the charter members of that church. During her last few years she was a resident of Parkland Estates, Cameron Hall. She made many friends and received loving attention by the great staff on the premises. She always enjoyed the many activities provided there for the residents. Special thanks to the staff at Cameron for their care and attention to Isabel. Also, a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Floor 8.1, QE2 for their care and compassion during her brief stay there. Finally, thanks to her “special” nieces who were Isabel’s angels in her last few years. She will always be an inspiration to her family and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to the CNIB. A Memorial Service will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Saturday, April 28th at 2:00pm. Please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
