With great sadness, we announce the passing of James (Jim) Edward Ryan, 77, of Hammonds Plains on February 8, 2020. Born in Halifax, Jim was the son of Joseph (deceased) and Roxanne (Acker) Ryan. After finishing high school, Jim enlisted in the Air Force for 3 years. Following that, he was employed at Trenton Carworks, the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission and finally as an Employee Relations Officer at NSGEU, retiring 20 years ago. Jim was first and foremost a family man. His love for his two sons knew no bounds. Recently, his long-awaited wish came true when he was blessed with his first grandchild, Theo.

Jim had a fascination with trains, planes and automobiles. Together with his brother, he restored several antique cars. He built a massive train set in recent years in intricate detail, of which he was so proud. He also was very talented in pen and ink drawings. From May until October every year, he spent most of each day outside doing yard work, which he loved. Recently Jim completed a long planned trip to Italy, where he visited the war grave of his uncle Austin, who was killed in action. Jim completed this trip with his two sons, and he spoke of it often.

Jim is survived by his mother Roxanne, his wife of 37 years Maureen (Ford), sons George and Sean (Claire) and grandson Theodore. He will be missed by his loving sister Peggy (Pepe/Jean) Lajoie, with whom he shared a special bond; and sister Sherry. He also leaves to mourn nephew Joe Grant; nieces Erine Grant and Tanya MacBean. Missing him already is his little four legged friend Chloe, whom he dubbed "The Duchess Of Pinetree." Jim was predeceased by his father Joseph and brother Patrick. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday 11AM, February 18, at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax; Reception to follow. Family flowers only please. Donations in Jim's memory may be made to Hope for Wildlife or a charity of your choice.
