Despite suffering a serious illness at 3 years old that resulted in paralysis in half her body, Janet was blessed with the opportunity to grow up in an extended family where she was expected to strive and thrive in life – and she did just that. Janet was proud to have been a role model for people with disabilities at a time when they were not well accepted in society.
She learned to skate with the Silver Blades Figure Skating Club, took dancing lessons with the Buchta Dancers and completed high school at Mount Saint Vincent Academy. She was involved in Girl Guides as District Commissioner of the Topsail District from 1970-73. After living in Québec for a few years, she returned to Halifax, and worked in a clerical position at the RCMP, H Division until her retirement.
Janet is survived by her brother, Arthur; daughters Suzanne, Michelle & Angelique; grandchildren Tim, Kenzie, Leah, Andrew, Connor and Will; and great-grandchildren Kaitlin, Jacob and Corey.
A memorial service and reception will be held at J.A. Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, at 10:00am on Thursday, August 27, 2015.
