Janet’s lifelong friend, Theresa Townsend memorialized Janet for all of us in the following:
Janet you were the greatest friend anyone could ask for. You were a big sister, mentor, mother and friend to many. You had a gift. A gift for making friends so easily, the gift of loving and helping others.
Along her journey she met Wayne McDonald, they had two beautiful girls Jocelyne and Rachelle, she loved them so much, they were her life. Janet often took them to Clare for the Acadian Festival and told them the whole story about their proud Acadian culture. They will carry that with them forever. She taught them to bake, cook and make bonfires as camping was a big part of their summers. Many family trips were enjoyed in Florida where Janet really enjoyed the magic of Disney.
Janet worked 30 years for VIA Rail primarily on the passenger train between Halifax/Montreal. Where again, another family was made, she was well known for her kindness, thoughtfulness and warm smile. Over the years cards and comments came often with thanks from her passengers. Although this work took her away from her family she never missed an opportunity to make life a little easier for others around her.
Janet had a love for lobsters and every time we went to Clare lobster was on the menu along side of Rappie pie. She loved to do crafts, gardening, camping, building a nice fire, making s’mores and enjoying nature. She loved swimming and walking the beaches. This past year l took her to the beach searching for beach glass and creating with that was going to be our next craft challenge. Always drawn to the ocean! Cuba was her favourite place outside of Nova Scotia.
Janet leaves behind 2 beautiful daughters and so many friends and family. Janet you were taken from us too soon. You will alway be in our hearts. There's a big emptiness for all of us. Your girls will have all the love and support to get them through these difficult times. We are all in this together to help. R.I.P Janet, I love you beaucoup. Go fly high, till we meet again my friend. (Theresa xo)
