

Age 98, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born April 16, 1925, in Halifax, NS, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Emma (Romans) Ewell. Jean was a member of Bethany United Church. She lived a long and good life. Jean attended Queen Elizabeth High School and in 1944 was awarded the Halifax Academy Commercial School prize for accuracy and speed typewriting. In her early years, she worked as a teletype operator at Trans-Canada Airlines (TCA, now Air Canada), the Dominion Public Weather Office of the Government of Canada and later in life as a data entry operator at the Department of Supply and Services. Family was the most important thing in Jean’s life. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren. Jean expressed her creative talents through being an excellent seamstress, good cook and doing oil paintings. She loved cookbooks and had a wonderful collection. Besides her parents, Jean was preceded by husband Sidney, sister Viola Crossley, and infant grandson Daniel. She is survived by her children Donald, Nancy (Stephen Boutilier), Kenneth; grandchildren Michael (Kelly) Boutilier, Angela (Lucian) Coltea, Cody (Merissa) Boutilier, Brandon Hatcher, Laura (John) Hardy; great-grandsons David, Neil, Luca, Ezra, Logan, Benjamin and extended family including nieces and nephew. Arrangements have been entrusted to J.A.Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax where a service in her memory will be held Friday October 20 at 10 am. Reception to follow.
