It is with great sorrow but with loving memories that we announce the death of Jeffrey Paul Corkum, 53 of Halifax. After a long-time suffering with cancer, Jeffrey died very peacefully at home on November 22, 2017 with his spouse and sister by his side.
Jeffrey was born in Bridgewater on March 6, 1964. He was the son of the late Raymond Corkum and Jean (Haines) Corkum. Jeffrey started out in the labour force for a short time as a letter carrier with Canada Post in Bridgewater and as a favourite bartender for a few years in several establishments in Bridgewater, Mahone Bay and Halifax. Through sheer dedication and determination, Jeffrey privately studied and worked very hard to establish himself in the field of accounting, his life-long dream and passion. He was given the opportunity to start out as a junior/trainee as part of a small team in the accounting office of a project within the Nova Scotia Film Industry. Through time, Jeffrey proved himself capable to move forward as a lead accountant within the film industry and working for many private clients during a career that lasted for 20 years in the field. Jeffrey was a dedicated and generous friend to many. His personal motto was ‘work hard and live large, rich in friends’. We are all truly blessed and fortunate with the many happy memories he leaves behind. Jeffrey cherished life tremendously through his many adventures travelling abroad and throughout the Atlantic Region with his partner who would become his spouse. He was a talented gardener and landscape artist, his favourite passtime and hobby. He was a great story teller and entertained everywhere to everyone. Jeffrey was there when anyone needed anything and was never afraid to take on any challenge…the largest of which has taken his life.
Jeffrey was predeceased by his father, Raymond and mother, Jean (Haines) Corkum, his brothers, Peter and David Corkum. He leaves behind his spouse, Gary Swim; his sister, Debbie Anthony (Kirk); brother, Michael; sister-in-law, Alma and nephews, Stephen and Nick.
A special thank you to many friends and family who have given us strength during Jeffrey’s illness and since his death. A very special thank you to Dr. Mark Taylor, Jeffrey’s dedicated doctor, and the complete health and Palliative Care team at the Victoria General Hospital. Your compassion and dedication to our Jeffrey will never be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home will be held in the J.A. Snow Memorial Chapel, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11 am. Interment will follow on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at Brookside Cemetery in Bridgewater at 1:30 pm.
