OBITUARY

Joan Marcia Hill

May 16, 1941March 19, 2020

In her typical quiet, humble way, Joan Marcia (Huskins) Hill has slipped away from this life. Never one to want anyone to fuss over her, she has passed at a time when it is not possible to have a funeral gathering.

Joan was born on May 16, 1941 to Laura (Fancy) Huskins and Rexford Huskins. She spent her early years in her beloved community of Fairview. Joan graduated from Halifax West High School and went on to train at Miss Murphy’s Business College.

As a youth Joan was an enthusiastic member of the United Church. At the Young People’s Union at St Matthew’s United Church she met her true love, Rowland Clyde Hill. They married in October of 1970 and enjoyed a marriage of 46 happy years. Joan and Clyde had 2 children, Marjorie and Mark. They enjoyed travel, visiting a variety of different places. Joan taught Sunday School and Religion in The School for many years. She found friendship and support as a member of the Bessie Fraser UCW Unit at Fairview United Church. In later years Joan and Clyde became sports fans and especially enjoyed following basketball. They had more adventure with a trip to Nashville and a cross Canada train voyage. Joan cared for Clyde with unparalleled devotion throughout his battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Shortly after his death she was diagnosed with the same disease.

Joan leaves behind her brother, Walter Huskins, son, Mark Hill, daughter, Marjorie Hill (Brian Heaslip), Grandchildren: Andrew and Laura Hill, Christopher Goreham, Katherine, Faith and Jackson Heaslip, her aunt, Betty Woodward, and cousin and friend, Mary Ward.

A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.

Joan and her brother Walter were/are my cousins, although it's been many years since we've seen each other. I remember visiting her Father, my Uncle Rex ( a brother to my Father, Arthur) at the Monico Garage on Windsor Street, and also at their home in Fairview.
I was saddened to hear of Joan's passing. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

I have fond memories as Joan was my grade 4 Sunday school teacher at Fairview United Church. I was so happy when Joan and Clyde married and then when they added Marjorie and Mark to their lives. Also fond memories of game nights at the Faulkner house, food and laughter. And dinner's at the Hill House in Halifax. My heart goes out to Marjorie and Mark at this time. I'm praying for you that God would give you peace and Hope, as you remember fondly your mom and dad. God bless you at this time! Love Ruth

Our deepest sympathies to Marjorie, Mark and their families. Mothers are so precious and their loss takes a piece of us with them, but the loving memories of our time with them helps fill that void, and we must cherish those memories and forever hold them in our hearts.
May your love of God help through your loss.

We extend our deepest sympathy in the loss of your Mother, Joan.
We have many wonderful memories of all your family during our many years together at Fairview United Church. Joan & Clyde were both great supports of their church & participated in many gatherings & groups & we have lots of pictures depicting them helping out. Our thoughts & prayers are with you at this very difficult time, especially now when so many are self isolating.
