John (Jack) Charles Richards died peacefully at Hants Community Hospital, on Sunday, March 5, 2017 with his niece Christine Phillips, at his side.
He was born in Halifax on June 17, 1928
He was the son of the late John (Frank) and Sybil (Fillatre) Richards.
He was also predeceased by his wife Julia Marion Richards and his brother Judson (Jud) Richards.
He is survived by his sister Marion Graves, of The Berkley in Halifax, and several nieces and nephews.
Formerly of Kearney Lake Road, but for the past several months Jack has enjoyed living at Mill Section, with his niece and her husband.
While there, he loved to watch the birds, and other wildlife. He was especially attached to Sigh & Dixie, the family dogs.
John worked for many years for shipping agents I.H. Mathers, and that job became a valuable resource many years later, as John proudly volunteered at Pier 21, as a guide.
He was able to recall many ships coming into Halifax, filled with immigrants from all over the world.
He loved telling stories of his days and experiences, while working for the shipping agents.
He would tell about going out on the Pilot boats, just outside Halifax Harbour, and seeing the excitement and expectation on the faces of the new Canadians, as they saw their new country, for the first time.
He never tired of telling stories to the many visitors of Pier 21, and to anyone who would listen.
Cremation has taken place, there will be no service, and burial will be at a later date.
Donations in memory of Jack, may be made to a charity of your choice.
