Born in Saint-Pierre (Iles St. Pierre and Miquelon), he was the son of the late Thomas and Yvonne Marie Mahe Walsh.
Joseph was a fisherman on the island of St. Pierre until he immigrated to Halifax in 1964. He then worked for a few years as a cook on fishing boats. At a later time in his life he perfected his skills in wood work and carpentry and worked on construction until he retired 20 years ago. He loved fishing, hunting, bingo, and loved sports such as hockey, soccer, and loved to watch the Olympic Games. Joseph was always up to date with the news, knew everything that was going on in the world. He only had one love in his life and it was our mother, his wife Marie. He also loved doing craft work, gardening and for a few years enjoyed selling at the flea markets every Sunday and going to yard sales on Saturdays, with his wife.
Joseph is survived by daughters Maryvonne, Josiane, and Claudette; son Guy; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two nephews.
He is predeceased by his mother and father, wife Marie Augusta Audoux Walsh, brother Martin, brother Pierre and two sisters who passed away in infancy.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., on Thursday, October 21st from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Memorial service will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Friday, October 22nd at 10:30am. Interment will be held in Mount Olivett Cemetery.
