I'm so sorry, Stewart and Ruth, to learn of your mother's passing. She was one of God's beautiful people,  beautiful inside and out.  A kind and gracious lady and a good friend.  Some of my favourite memories of our time at Saint Matthew's are of our visits to your home, often on Sundays or Boxing Days,  and your family's hospitality,  and the fun and friendship we experienced.  She will certainly be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Anderson's passing. We grew up with the Andersons in Clayton Park. I remember Mrs. Anderson's laugh. I remember house sitting for her and being impressed with how she folded her towels. I remember her coming for tea. I remember mom keeping her house keys in the soup terrine for safe keeping.  I remember going to her house to watch parades with Ruth and Stewart on TV..in colour!! Mrs. Anderson is and will always be part of my fondest childhood memories. Stewart and Ruth   My sincere sympathy in the loss of your mother.I met your Mom at St Matthews church in !960 and we became very good friends Over the years our lives got busier and we saw each other less frequently but we still kept in touch Stewart may remember Gordon Laing They played together when they were very young and Ruth  and my daughter are the same age. Dear Stewart and Ruth: your Mum was such a kind, compassionate person. She was so comforting and supportive when Mum, then Dad passed. I know how much Mum appreciated her friendship in our years on Henry Street.  The Cook girls remember her fondly.

Your mom and my Margaret were two who made a lasting impact wherever they were.

Your Mom was a place of loving and comfort and inclusion. You and Stewart and your families are her legacy.  When I think of Joyce, I remember sitting in your kitchen and your Mom creating a loving and comforting safe harbour for you, your friends and cousins, and us all. I always felt welcome; Joyce's smile would make you feel right at home. Joyce's strength and support of you- her children at your Dad's passing taught me much about moving forward despite hardship.  When we drove out to Peggys Cove more recently she regaled me with stories of first moving to Halifax from Ontario and how she grew to love it here. Again- that strength.
