Born on June 4, 1939, in New Glasgow, NS, Joyce’s life journey and subsequent contribution to a better life for family, friends and children in need, has concluded, but her memory will live on. Upon first meeting Joyce and encountered her gregarious, humorous and spirited nature you knew that an adventure was about to happen. She embraced, and was a loyal friend to, friends and relatives reaching from Newfoundland to British Columbia and into the United States of America. Her friends and family were her lifeline and her home and hospitality was freely given, accepted and reciprocated. Joyce was always there in times of need and she always found a way to make a difference.
Some of her life achievements were as sponsor of children in an international level, foster mother for the City of Halifax and the Province of Nova Scotia, member of the IWK Cystic Fibrosis Mothers’ Support Group, volunteer “cuddler” at the IWK Children’s Hospital.
She was an advocate for Women’s Rights, wild animals’ rights, and passionate causes brought to her attention. She loved animals and was never without cats and /or dogs in her home. She enjoyed their company and the love and companionship they provided her. Her lifelong interest in and appreciation of dolls and their history was evident through her membership in the Mayflower Doll Club.
