It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Judy passed away peacefully in the Victoria General Hospital on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 surrounded by her loving family after a seven-year battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Leo Joseph and Aileen (Hultman) Rowan. She lived most of her life in Halifax. After graduating from the Sacred Heart Academy, she enrolled in the business program at the Maritime Secretarial College. Upon graduation she worked for the Dean of Dentistry at Dalhousie University followed by a few years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in both Halifax and Toronto. On her return to Halifax she was employed with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia for 32 years where she made many long lasting friendships. Judy was well-known and respected for her diligence to detail in her work, planning major events for her employers over the years.
Forty-seven years ago she married her life-long love, Robert “Bob” Cameron. He has been a faithful and courageous knight to his beloved princess. Besides her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Pamela “Tallulah” Cameron (Joe MacDonell) and Sharon “Bird” Cameron-Charlton (Douglas Charlton). They believe that she was the world’s most perfect mother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Ryan Cromwell, Jillian Cromwell, Cameron Charlton and Madison Charlton will miss her but will cherish the memories of all the special times they shared with their Grams. She is survived by her “big brother”, James “Jim” (Lucy) Rowan, Moncton, and her little brother John (Sharon LeBlanc) Rowan, Halifax. She also leaves behind her nieces, nephews and cousins, all who have lost the matriarch of the family.
Green Bay was a huge part of her life. She was best known for hosting sociables on the beach (cheese balls being her specialty) and entertaining family and friends - only after everyone completed her detailed to-do lists. She will be greatly missed but leaves an ever-lasting light in our hearts.
At this time the family would like to thank her health care team, all the wonderful doctors, nurses and health care workers at the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre with special thanks to Dr. Wojcek Morzycki, Dr. Maureen Nolan and Veronica Tanner. Thank you to Dr. David Dupere, Glenna Thornhill and the staff of the Palliative Care unit, as well as all of the nurses of the VON and those in 5A of the Centennial Building. Kathleen Zinck and Sandy MacDonald of LifeMark, your dedication to Judy will never be forgotten. Last, but certainly not least, thank you and much love to Dr. Gina Burgess whose attention to Judy went above and beyond the call of duty.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church, North St., Halifax at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 15th. Burial at a later date.We ask you to bring a special quote, memory or poem to tuck into a memory box. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting something special in your garden in her memory.
