Julia (or Julie as she was known) was born in the village of Belleoram, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland in 1932. At the age of 18 she like some before, left her beloved Newfoundland to journey to Halifax. It was here that she met a young fellow Newfoundlander named Max Baker at St. George’s Round Church and they soon were married.
Julie is survived by her daughter Shirley Williamson (David) of Halifax and son Harold Baker (Yvonne) of Auckland New Zealand. She is also survived by three grandsons Simon, Adam, and Paul Baker all of Auckland as well as three great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her brother-in-law Stanley Baker (Elizabeth) of Crapaud Prince Edward Island. She was predeceased by her husband Maxwell and son Douglas in addition to her father John Thomas Dominix and mother, Sarah Dominix.
Julie was a Lifetime Member of the Eastern Star (Evening Star) for over 50 years as well as a Lifetime Member of Athena Temple No 149, Daughter’s of the Nile. She was a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church for her adult life and active in numerous church events. Her energy and commitment to each of the multiple projects she was part of for the over sixty years as a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church, was contagious.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shaitfa Jabine for her care, counsel, and assistance. We do not know how we would have made it through the past five years without you. We would also like to thank wholeheartedly the staff of Northwood Manor 1C Chestnut Lane, Halifax Campus for their compassion and dignity taking care of Julie over the past two years. Each and every one of you went far beyond what was expected. You are the modern-day heroes of our society.
