

WATKINS, June Elizabeth (Baker) - 75, of Halifax; passed away September 22nd in Ivany Place, Bedford, NS after a battle with CBGD. She was predeceased by her parents, her devoted husband of 52 years, Ross Watkins and by her beloved brother Archie Baker.June was born in Halifax and was the daughter of Robert L. Baker and Lillian (Jollimore) Baker; her family nickname was Tuckie. Growing up, Tuckie and her family spent their summers in Terrence Bay. When she was 18, she married Ross and they eventually moved to Montreal when Ross (sometimes known by his Navy nickname of “Duke”) left the Royal Canadian Navy. They lived in Montreal for many years, and it is there that their only child, Robbie (Robert) was born. June worked in advertising while living in Montreal, before Robbie was born. In 1969 June’s family relocated to her home province of Nova Scotia, settling in Kentville; where June lived for the next 38 years before returning to Halifax. She possessed a strong artistic talent and enjoyed doing crafts. June was especially accomplished in ribbon embroidery, and was well known for her Christmas decorations. June had been an active member of the Kings County Liberal Association. She was a member of St. James Anglican church and was a part of the Cursillo Movement in both the Catholic and Anglican Churches. She became a leader in the movement, and she was a pioneer of the Cursillo movement within the Anglican Church in Nova Scotia. June had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and a belief that the power of God could make positive change in people’s lives. June is survived by her only son Rob Watkins (Halifax), and his wife Caroline. She is also survived by her sisters Twinkle (Dartmouth), Penny (Halifax), Dolly (Vermont), and by a cousin who is loved like a sister, Lorraine (New Jersey). Also there are 2 grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive on Thursday September 27th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with Funeral service on Friday September 28th at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
