Obituary of Kathleen Marie Emilie Jones

IN THE CARE OF

JA Snow Funeral Home

Kathleen Marie Émilie Jones was a daughter, sister, friend and confidant, and a talented writer and communicator. She loved travel, the outdoors, and especially helping others. It is with deep sadness that we announce her passing after a sudden and unexpected illness. Kathleen is the beloved daughter of Louise Denault-Jones and Fred Vallance-Jones of Halifax. She began her journey in Winnipeg on February 26, 1997 and ended it far too soon in Gatineau, Quebec. Kathleen is remembered by her loving sisters Laura, Anna, and Caroline Jones of Halifax and by Anna’s partner Aidan Doherty. She is deeply missed by her loving and devoted partner Étienne Lafond of Halifax and his parents Micheline and François Lafond of Drummondville, Quebec. Kathleen is mourned by aunts Elizabeth Villeneuve (David Villeneuve), and Catriona Jones (Michael Gallant), and her cousins Anne, Ian, and Emily Villeneuve, and David, Benjamin (Marilee Gallant), and Edward Gallant, all in the Ottawa area. Kathleen is deeply missed by her godmother Julia Hamel of Brandon, Manitoba and leaves behind many friends and colleagues whose lives she touched with her easy smile, her friendship, and her kind, generous nature. She is a 2019 graduate of the University of King’s College (BJ Hons) and worked for two years as a reporter for allNovaScotia.com. For the last year she was a communications specialist at Chalice Canada, working to help those most in need around the world. Kathleen was a dedicated vegetarian, animal lover, and proud cat mom to her Jo, named after her favourite literary character from Little Women. Those who knew her commented on her giving nature, and several people now have renewed life thanks to her gift of her organs. Kathleen’s family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at the Hull Hospital, including Drs. Youssef Karam and Katherine Poon, ICU nurses Francesca, Daniel, and Benjamin, and Annie Leduc, for the respect, dignity, and care they showed Kathleen during her week there. Donations in Kathleen’s memory can be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA, or Chalice Canada. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 23 at 12:15 pm at Saint Benedict Parish. Burial will take place privately later.
