Kathy was the beloved daughter of Dorothy and Harold Hart of Sambro. She was the cherished wife of Charlie Johnson and loving mother to Tanya Clark (Tony) and Tammy Johnson (Justin Cull). She was a proud nanny to Jacob Oakley, Josie Cull, Logan Clark, and Ethan Clark.
She is survived by her siblings: Brenda Osmond (Gord), June Schwartz (Robbie), Connie Hart (Jason Angel), Sonny Hart (Maria), John Hart (Lisa Boudreau), and Jackie Schnare (Wade), as well as twelve nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Harold Hart and her brother Glen Hart.
Kathy grew up in Sambro, and Charlie in Herring Cove. They met in 1971 at B.C. Silver at the young ages of 15 and 17. They were the first students to attend J.L. Ilsley High School and were high school sweethearts. Married on June 7, 1974, they shared 50 beautiful years together. Their love for one another was a true love story, filled with joy in the simple moments. Their greatest accomplishments were their daughters, sons-in-laws, and grandchildren.
Kathy and Charlie owned and operated a flooring business, C. Johnson Flooring. In 2005, Kathy began her real estate career with Sutton and later passed on her knowledge and legacy to her daughter, Tanya. Kathy cherished time with her family above all. She loved golfing, gardening, feeding the birds and deer, and watching the sunrise from her living room window, each one captured in a photo. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, knitting, and cooking. She had an incredible sense of humor, always ending her own corny jokes with the most infectious laugh.
Kathy was a Brownie leader for both Tanya and Tammy and taught countless children crafts and life lessons. She loved to travel, especially family trips to Florida beginning in 1988, and the beloved annual summer vacations to Cavendish, PEI as a family. These trips created countless treasured memories. While at the family cottage on Sherbrooke Lake, she enjoyed wineries, boat rides, water skiing, blueberry picking. She enjoyed a most memorable laughter-filled trip to Bangor with her sisters. Kathy always turned negatives into positives and was known for her brilliance, resourcefulness, and playful nickname “Kathenator,” earned during her daughters’ childhoods. She made everything from doll clothes to handmade sweaters, dresses, blankets, and dishcloths, and had the patience to master any pattern.
The family extends special thanks to the QEII Neurology Unit, Victoria General Oncology, 7th Floor Palliative Care at the Victoria General Hospital, and the dedicated staff at Hospice Halifax, where Kathy spent seven weeks making everyone laugh with her signature wit.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Halifax, 618 Francklyn Street Halifax, NS B3H 3B4, in Kathy’s memory.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 2:00 PM at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, NS B3S 0E1.
Kathy was a true inspiration, always encouraging others while pursuing her own passions. She was a woman of great strength, kindness, and resilience. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
