It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Jane Mary Miller, who died peacefully on June 13, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII, surrounded by family and friends after a brief battle with cancer. Laura was born on February 24, 1956, in Annapolis Royal, she was the daughter of Phyllis (Abbott) Miller and the late John "Jack" Miller. Laura was an employee with the VG Hospital for the last 11 years. We will always remember her exceptional gardening and baking skills, which were often well enjoyed during her friends' and family's birthdays and special events. While younger, she enjoyed playing volleyball and basketball. She was an amazing mother, sister and friend who gave more love than words can express. Laura was an extremely kind, patient, and caring woman who enjoyed giving to everyone she knew. Laura is survived by her daughter, Sarah Wilkie (Bruce Nelson), Calgary; son, Gregory Wilkie, Halifax; sisters, Anne (Gary) Weir, Granville Ferry; Valerie (Julian) Lomanski, Surrey; Jackie (Gary) Ross, Fall River; brother, John (Ann), Herring Cove; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; grand niece, Cheyenne Gillis and special friend, Paul Feron. The family would like to thank Northwood Home Care and VON for the care they provided to Laura during her illness. Also, heartfelt thanks to her dear friends Maxine Cottreau, Cheryl Broadfield, Sue Cairns, Rosalie Collier and many others who were always there for her. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17. Both services will be held in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. A private family committal service with be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annapolis Royal.
