He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan (nee Richards) 2 children; Janet Baker (m. Kevin), Richard (Rick) (m. Jennifer nee. MacLean), and 4 wonderful grandchildren, Chelsea Baker, Mitchell
Baker, Gillian Cole (m. Aidan) , and Aiden Deveau, brother Arcade Deveau (Toronto) and predeceased by a sister, Rose Marie (Salmon River).
Lawrence was the son of Wilfred and Theresa Deveau and was born in Salmon River, Digby County of Acadian decent. At an early age he developed a love of engines and motors and became a mechanic. He worked for Scotia Equipment in Halifax where he met Joan. They married and settled in Fairview where they raised their children and spent most of their life together. He went on to work at various garages in Halifax and Dartmouth; Blackwood Hodge, NS Tractor and Prime Material Handlers, where he retired at the age of 67. Larwence was a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He looked forward every spring to trout fishing in the lakes around Sheet Harbour with his brothers-in-law, Buddy and Floyd. And later, hunting with his son, son-in-law and grandson in Lunenburg County. He was an avid reader and could be found surrounded by books that he was in the process of reading. His lifelong passion was hockey; as a fan, supporter, coach and Director of the Bantam Division for Centennial Minor Hockey Association, he spent many winter weekends at the Centennial Arena. He was a hardcore Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan and never gave up hoping they would win another Stanley cup. Maybe this year dad!
