He is survived by his wife and soulmate Joan Wark (Vickery); his children Shannon (Rob), Shane (Karen) and Chantelle (Geoff). He was a much-loved Papa to his grandchildren: Mackenzie and Cooper, Braeden, Declan and Emmett, and Lee and Nolan. He was a great-grand Papa to Brooks.
Larry also leaves behind his brothers Mike (Jean), John, Glen (Lynda), and Dan, his sister Tammy and his many nieces and nephews and their families.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Shawn.
Larry was a force of nature. He loved cars and motorcycles. He drove them fast and drove one right up to the Chrysler Plant in Windsor where he worked in the paint shop and shortly became a plant union representative. He rose through the ranks and held different union positions within CAW. He eventually became the Atlantic Director for the Canadian Autoworkers where he stayed until his retirement. For his entire life, Larry stood up for working people. He did not shy away from a challenge and would not take no for an answer. His trade union values and principles were always front and center.
His bargaining style was second to none and he fought hard to make sure his members obtained a good deal and were treated with dignity and respect.
After retirement, Larry served on the Nova Scotia Labour Board for almost 20 years, still having a voice in fair treatment for workers.
Larry and Joan bought a log home in 2003 on a lake and Larry dubbed it Heaven’s Gate. Larry made it beautiful as only he could, and many happy family times happened in this special place. He will be missed by the many hummingbirds who flew near the deck waiting for his “special” formula of hummingbird feed.
He will be especially missed by his “Pretty Girls” Winnie and Tigger.
