Age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday July 23, 2021. Born in Halifax on June 25, 1943 he was the eldest child of Leon and Lillian Lohnes. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; his children, Shirlee, Darryl, Stephen (Sherri), and Karla (Marc); two grandsons Jacob and Max; brother Neil. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Wendell.
A man with a work ethic like no other, Junior started working at the age of 14 to help support his mother and younger siblings and that dedication to his work continued throughout his life. Starting with Ace Taxi he spent his days working tirelessly before turning to trucking. He made many runs between Nova Scotia and Boston and enjoyed telling many of his stories and reliving these trips though out his life with his wife and kids.
Before long he ventured into towing, which along with his wife and sons built Ace Towing. There was no job that Junior, Darryl and Stephen could not tackle. Here he got to know so many people and many employees who still keep in touch to this day.
The business led to many great friendships that spanned great distances including PEI, New York and Massachusetts.
Later in life came Jacob and Max, whom Junior adored. He called everyday in their first years of life to find out what they were doing and which milestones they had achieved. He enjoyed watching them grow and teaching them new things.
The family wishes to thank all the Nurses and Doctors involved in Juniors care over the last few months and ensuring his comfort in his final days. Thank you for your dedication, support and compassion.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J A Snow Funeral Home. Visitation to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday July 27 and Wednesday July 28, from 6-8pm both evenings in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
