Leona was born in O’Donnell Ontario on December 19th, 1926 and was the daughter of Onesime and Rose Anne (Charron) Lelonde. She was the youngest of 13 children and over the years shared many happy memories of her own childhood with her family.
Leona was a loving wife to her husband Jack of 65 years and adoring mother to her four children. The family relocated to Halifax from Ontario in 1972 and she became very active in her community. Leona was a devout Catholic and was a long standing member of the Catholic Women’s League. She was energetic and for many years belonged to badminton and bowling leagues. Knitting was her passion and she also enjoyed playing cards, board games, horse shoes, crokinole, and attending bingo with her family and friends. She would dance to any type of music and with a twinkle in her eye would enjoy telling a good joke.
Leona was always so excited when her two sisters Rhea and Sister Jeanette would arrive from Ontario each summer and the threesome along with Jack and daughter Mary Sue in tow would head to the family cottage for lots of fun in the sun.
Anyone that knew her will remember her fun loving spirit and her positive outlook on life. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family, cherished her time with Mary Sue and she spent many years lovingly guiding and supporting her.
She is survived by son Robert (Kelly), daughter Mary Sue, daughter in law Wanda, grandchildren, Holly, Wes (Hannah) and Laura. Great granddaughter Emily, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents, Onesime and Rose Anne (Charron) Lalonde, seven sisters, five brothers, husband Jack, son Michael, son in law David and daughter Janice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Arborstone Enchanced Care, 3rd floor for their kindness and care.
Celebration of Life service will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Thursday, September 14th at 2:00 pm. Private family burial to follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Sackville. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to charity of choice.
