On Dec 2, 2014, Lillian, age 85, was called home by her Heavenly Father.
She passed away peacefully in the care of the wonderful staff at the QEII hospital in Halifax. She was the daughter of the late William and Lillian Rose (Crawford) Flemming of Halifax and was predeceased by her son, Peter, and her brothers, William, Reginald, and Douglas. She is deeply missed by her husband of sixty-two years, Dr. Albert J. “A.J.” Shaw and their children, Brian (Jane) of Ohio, Kathleen (Scott) Anderson of Halifax, Lorraine (Gordon) McKelvie of Halifax, Gregory of California, Mike of Bermuda, Anne Marie (David) McLaughlin of Albany and Steven of Halifax. Lillian was blessed with twenty-two grandchildren, Ryan (Rachel), Evan, Mark (Casey), Greg, Mary Anne, Laura, Thomas, Caitlin, Sean, Kelly, Gabriel, Joseph, Christopher, Katie, Christie (William), Jamie, Samantha, Joshua, Christa, Alexa, Mitchell, Jacob and one great-grandchild, Jake.
Lillian was a graduate of the Halifax Infirmary Registered Nurses Program, an animal lover, and an avid card player. Her children remember her devotion to her family and friends, her faith, her generosity and humour. True to her Irish heritage, she was a spirited, feisty, resilient woman with an enthusiasm for pilgrimage, travel, shopping, and gift giving. She cherished her grandchildren, and always offered her open arms, an open home, and an open pantry. We hold her memory in our hearts.
Visitation will be at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (902-455-0531) from 2-4 pm, Sunday, December 7th. Funeral Mass will be said at 10 am on Monday, December 8th at St. Agnes Church, 6903 Mumford Road, Halifax. Flowers welcomed. Donations in Lillian’s memory may be made to Hope Cottage.
