Lynnie, as she was so affectionately called, was loved by all those fortunate enough to have known her, passed away peacefully at home January 09 with her loving family by her side. Born Sept 09, 1926, in Windsor Junction Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of Agnes Maude (Miller) and Charles Allen Mac Nearney. She grew up in Windsor Junction and was a member of the first graduating class of Queen Elizabeth High School in 1943. She earned a teaching degree from Normal College in Truro, and taught her first year in a two-room school in River Herbert. When the war ended in 1945, Lynn attended Acadia University to study Home Economics. While at Acadia Lynn fell in love with John Raymond Fiske and married him after graduating in 1948. Many friendships forged at Acadia would last a lifetime. John’s job as an Engineer took them to live in many different corners of the Maritimes. They spent a year at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut, as John furthered his studies before settling in Halifax in 1955. Lynn’s primary focus became her family. She raised her 5 children with energy and enthusiasm, and instilled in them the purpose of love, forgiveness, respect, and especially compassion for those facing challenges in life. She was a fantastic mother, and encouraged her children to explore the world knowing they were cherished and loved. Lynn was also involved in her own business endeavors throughout the years, along with extensive volunteer work that involved many charities such as The Help Line, The IWK, Bonnie Lee Farm, and the Red Hat Society. Lynn lived life to the fullest, and captured its beauty in the treasure--‐trove of oil paintings she has left to family and friends. Always a consummate health advocate, her degree in Home Economics & Nutrition led to a healthy lifestyle, and she became an exemplary cook. Holiday and Celebratory meals were her specialty. She had a terrific sense of humor and laughter was always the guest of honor. She was always ready to listen and had a knack for making everyone feel she had all the time in the world for them. Lynn’s exceptional love for gardening and respect for nature was also evident in every aspect of her life. She instilled this in her children. During the summer months, she loved her time spent in Prince Edward Island and in Chester. She loved swimming, sailing, hiking, and especially warm days on the beach. During the winter months, Lynn was an avid curler, skier, skater, and always enjoyed a good bridge game with friends. For a time Lynn and John traded winters in Nova Scotia for Siesta Key, Florida where they spent many relaxing years. Lynn loved to travel. Her favorite trips were to Kenya on Safari, visiting Egypt’s Pyramids & sailing the Nile. She fell in love with Turkey, Australia and enjoyed her extensive travels throughout Europe. Throughout her life & especially during her last years of illness, she displayed abundant courage and grace. She inspired all those who knew and loved her. She will be most remembered by her beaming smile, big heart and living her life with dignity. She will remain in the heart of everyone who loved her. The family owes an enormous debt of gratitude to a legion of people, all of whom were supportive of Lynn over so many years. Too numerous to mention here, they will know who they are. Their gifts of love and kindness will never be forgotten. In particular we would like to thank Heather Lind for her years of love and compassionate service as her friend and personal care giver. Also we would like to thank Martha MacIssac for her years of traveling from Newfoundland to tend and care for Lynn. Special thanks to the 4th floor MedDay Unit VG and the VON.
