Our cherished aunt died suddenly at her home in Cameron Hall, Parkland Clayton Park on August 16, 2017 at age 95. Born in December, 1921 to the late Omar and Annie Drysdale, she grew up in Halifax and graduated from Bloomfield High School and Dalhousie University.
Margaret was a much respected teacher at Chebucto Road School for many years. She took an active role in many youth activities such as teaching Sunday school at St John's United Church and she was very involved with CGIT and served as camp director for 10 years.
In 1970 she married the Reverend Nathan Bowering and retired from teaching to assist Nathan in his United Church Ministry. This took them to Ontario and throughout the Maritimes where they made many lasting friendships.
Upon their retirement Margaret and Nathan had their dream home built in Rockingham and became valued members of Rockingham United Church. Known fondly as "Margie" to her many nieces and nephews, she is remembered by us for bringing our extended families together. Kind and generous, she showed much pride in all our endeavours. We loved her very much.
She was always interested in current affairs and was an engaging conversationalist. Margaret was an avid traveler starting as a new graduate and continuing throughout her life. Her journeys included Great Britain, Europe, the Middle East, Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean. She was also a talented artist. Having attended art school in her teens she resumed painting after retirement and thoroughly enjoyed her time painting with her friend Jinny Wright at Cameron Hall.
Margaret is survived by brother, Dr. Ian Drysdale (Janet); sisters-in-law, Eva Drysdale, Betty Drysdale, Myrla Drysdale and Sue Smith; long-time friend and travel companion, Olive Dunbar, and many devoted nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by husband Rev. Nathan Bowering, brothers Everett Drysdale, Dr Ronald Drysdale, Dr Alan Drysdale, sister Isabel Curren and brother in-law Arthur Curren. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 2pm in Rockingham United Church with reception to follow in church hall. Family interment Thursday, September 14 in Elmsdale. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations in Margaret's memory may be made to Rockingham United Church, 12 Flamingo Dr, Hfx, B3M 1S5, Doctors Without Borders, Phoenix House or to a charity of your choice.
