Born in Sydney, Cape Breton on August 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Edward Bernard Butler and Annie Isabel (MacNeil) Butler.
Peggy was a school teacher who began teaching in Big Pond, Cape Breton, and ended her career at St. Stephen’s School in Halifax in the early 1960’s. Peggy was a long time volunteer at the Halifax Infirmary “Lobby Shop”. She loved swimming and spending afternoons on the deck at the Waegwoltic Club.
Peggy is survived by her beloved husband, Elmer MacDonald; daughters Anne Marie and Shauna (Paul Carver); sister Frances Eyre; grandsons Mark, Ryan, Samuel and Benjamin; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother William “Bill” Bernard Butler and sister Mary Butler.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Wednesday, November 21st from 6-8pm. Memorial service will be held at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 26 Purcell’s Cove Rd., Halifax on Thursday, November 22nd at 2:00pm; Father John Williams officiating.
