To Marlien,
I think of you often.  I miss our conversations and how you helped me direct my life. You were mother, my aunt and my friend. You were so many things to me and for me. I miss you so often and I would love to tell you of all things that I have done. I miss the stories of your life and your helping words. You were the constant in my life and the parent that I always wanted.

I love you with all my heart. I wish I could have told you this before you passed away. So I sent it into the universe and hopefully you will get it.

Finally i Googled you, only to find out you passed away last year.
We met in 1994 in Utrecht and even though we were 20 years apart in age, we connected during this intense time in our lives.

I often thought about you fondly.

May you fly free and rest easy.

Hoe sad to learn that dear Marlien is no longer between us. I have been working with her in her last years in the Netherlands.  We have shared so many hours with hard working, with struggeling, with cooking, laughing, quarreling, loving each other and at last sharing our deepest dissappointments over the end of our intended company: Kap&Grime BV.

I Will always remember Marlien in her civilized Ways,  her humor and her deeply felt love for her loved ones.

Dear Marlien , oh how I miss you .
I will always remember your wicked indépendance ,your humor and your never ending energy . 
I am so grateful for your concern and warm welcome when I was sick and in need of help .
So many good memories will forever keep you alive in my thoughts .
Our gastronomic weekends , cooking , sharing old family recipes, creating a « Vieille Europe « time-space in Nova Scotia .
This lovely trip to the South of France with you .
For all these moments you shared with me I thank you from the bottom of my heart .

We are stunned and saddened by this news--Marlien is so alive in our thoughts and memories, so full of humour --that wicked irony--and artistry and energy.  We are thinking of her daring in coming to Nova Scotia and building a portfolio as a visual artist of the durable and luminous, the  gloriously beautiful house she dreamed into existence, and the great care she took with the land and people around her.  We admired her and remain deeply grateful to her for her shelter and care of our elder, Elisabeth, when she was ill, her persistence with our wildly straying animals, and her tenacity in friendship. We remember meals and music together, dancing at her 60th birthday party and going for walks along the shore. We are grateful for the chance to know Marlien; she leaves a huge hole in the world. Our hearts go out to her family and other friends.



So sad! I send sympathy to Marlein's family and friends. I will miss Marlein, she was a good soul. I admired her artistry, strength, inteligence and  humor very much.  I will treasure the times we enjoyed together and her art in our home.

Marlien was born in the Netherlands in 1951. She started working for the Dutch Television and made up a career as makeup artist, theatrical hairstylist and wig maker. Next to her work she has been active as an visual artist and photographer. 
Marlien immigrated to Canada in 2002. 

Lieve Marlien! Thank you for all the good memories we shared together during a long period of my childhood! I will keep them forever in my heart! And thank you for letting me be part of your family. I can’t believe that you’re not there anymore. Will never forgot you ❤️ Shura
