It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Elizabeth Mahoney, 96, Dartmouth Nova Scotia on Jan 17th, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Florence (Power) Charlton and Gerald “Chic” Charlton Marie was born and raised in Halifax where she met her late husband and lifelong partner of 55 years Peter Michael Mahoney of Halifax. Marie enjoyed a long and successful career with the Royal Bank of Canada but family and raising her three children was always her number one priority. She was a devoted mom and grandmother who loved the simple things in life, cooking, knitting, reading, playing cards, and spoiling her grandchildren. Marie and Peter enjoyed their retirement years wintering in Florida and spent most summers at their cottage on Prince Edward Island. She is survived by her daughters; Anne Marie Mahoney of Calgary and Margaret “Mary” MacDonald (Mahoney) of Maine; her son Peter Michael (Tracy) Mahoney of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Sarah (Don), Michael, Christopher, Colin, Jeffrey, and Kathryn; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Madeline and Alexander; brothers Gerald Charlton, Bernie Charlton, David Charlton; sister Joyce Hyland; sister in law Molly Charlton and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Peter Michael Mahoney, her brother in law Doug Hyland and her sister in law Betty Charlton. A special thank you to Laurel Collins and her team for the outstanding care given to Marie which allowed her to leave us on her terms with grace and dignity. Cremation has taken place at her request and a family memorial service will be held at a later date.
