Age 92, of Halifax passed away peacefully on August 3, 2020 at Hospice Halifax. Born June 30, 1928 in Halifax, she was the daughter of John Joseph Murphy and Mary Johanna (Murphy) Murphy. Marion was employed at Simpsons-Sears catalogue division for 23 years. In her retirement, she would later work as a step-on guide for Tay-Mac Tours of Halifax. Marion loved to dance, to travel, and play card games such as bridge and auction 45’s. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Pius X Parish (later Saint Benedict Parish) and also the Red Hat Society chapters “Ruby Rebels” and “Classy Lobsters”. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Fenwick Lacombe Melvin. She is survived by her son Christopher Alan Melvin, of Halifax. Cremation has taken place. A private funeral and burial will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A celebration of Marion’s life will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the staff at Hospice Halifax for their care and support in Marion’s final weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
