Walker, Marion Louise (nee Smith), 87, of Halifax, NS, passed peacefully into the arms of her loving Saviour, Jesus Christ, on September 9, 2019, at the Halifax Hospice. Marion was born in Elgin, NB, on September 15, 1931, to Ronald and Alice Smith. She grew up in Hillsborough and Gunningsville, NB, where she met the love of her life, Robert F. Walker. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before Bob passed away. Marion worked as a stenographer for Canadian National Express before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker.
Marion’s passion for leading others to know Christ led her to serve many years in children and youth ministries, most notably Pioneer Girls/Clubs. Also, she was involved in music ministry as a church pianist, soloist, and in various choirs and ensembles. For several years, she enjoyed teaching beginner piano students in her home. Marion’s love of flowers and birds, with all the colour and beauty they brought into her life, was evident in all that surrounded her. She took great delight in gardening and beautifying their homes and cottage. After retirement, Marion and Bob enjoyed 25 summers at the cottage they built in PEI. She loved sewing, needlework, scrapbooking, baking and reading. After Bob’s passing, her colouring books became a source of comfort and peace. Her strong faith in God’s steadfastness and love carried her through many months of coping with Bob’s loss and her own health challenges.
Marion is survived by her daughters, Kathy (James) Lai and Susan (Neil) Halliday; son-in-law, René (Esther) and their daughter, Elyssa; grandchildren, Jeremy (Amy) Lai, Stephanie (Daniel) Schlichter, Marc (Virginie) Savard, Heidi (Sean) O’Brien, Kevin (Claudia) Savard; great-grandchildren, Zoë Lai, Mathieu and Raphaël Savard, Isaac Schlichter; brothers, Ray (Sharon) Smith and Rev. Ronald Smith; several nieces and nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by Robert F. Walker, her husband of 66 years; Sharon, daughter; Robert Smith, brother; Kay Thorne (Smith), sister; Ronald and Alice Smith, parents.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, from 6-8 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 16, at 10 AM at Birch Cove Baptist Church, 50 Donaldson Ave, Halifax, with reception in the church. Private interment will follow. To honour Marion’s love of colour, we invite you to wear bright attire to the visitation and funeral.
