Marjorie Teresa Bellefontaine

October 15, 1929October 3, 2019

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear Aunt in the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII, on October 3, 2019, at the age of 89. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Marie "Nettie" Bellefontaine. After high school, Marjorie went to work at Maritime Tel & Tel where she worked in the Engineering Department until her retirement after 36 years. She spent her early years growing up in West Chezzetcook, which became her beloved second home up until her passing. She was extremely proud of her Acadian Heritage and loved to tell stories about the family history. After the Second World War, the family moved to a new home in Halifax where she lived until 2017 when she relocated to Shannex, Bradford Hall. In her 30s, she was diagnosed with a debilitating hearing ailment that would leave her almost deaf. Never one to let a "little thing like that" keep her from living her life, she continued to participate in all the things she loved. She travelled all over the world, went to the symphony, the theatre and concerts. She loved to garden, photography, swim in Porter's Lake, play bridge, and socialize with her many friends. She is survived by her beloved nieces, Lorraine (Terry) Chisholm, Lake Loon; Darlene (Alan) O'Laughlin, Halifax; great-nieces and nephews, Brittany, Rebecca, Dylan, Jonathan and "that sweet little redhead" great great-niece, Piper. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Wallace and niece, Denise. The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the nurses and doctors on 7A of the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site. They were so good to Marjorie and were her Guardian Angels during the last month of her life. She has been entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass with take place Wednesday, October 9th at 11 am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford St., Halifax. Interment will take place in St. Anselm's Cemetery, West Chezzetcook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association Nova Scotia or Bryony House.

It was a priviledge to have known Marjorie for so many years. My mother, Carmel, was a friend and bridge club member and the friendship continued after we left Halifax. So much so that Marjorie opened her home to me as a young university student who didn't want to stay in residence. I remember how active she was and how much she enjoyed life. The year I stayed on Garden St will be a pleasant memory forever.
