Born in Halifax, Marjorie was the daughter of John and Mary Stanislaus Hennessy. Marjorie attended Oxford School and Saint Patrick Girls High School where she was her graduating class Salutatorian and received a scholarship to the Nova Scotia College of Art (and Design).
Marjorie’s intelligence, curiosity and organizational skills held her in good stead throughout her career choices. After marrying Rene her adventurous spirit lead to Marjorie working for NATO in Fontainebleau, France where, legend has it, she was issued the first Diners Club Card. While in Longmeadow, Massachusetts Marjorie was the office manager who helped open the New England office for Nissan Gymnasium Company. As well, she assisted in opening the office of “Off Oil” in 1980 in Halifax and was with their main office at Scotia Square. Later Marjorie worked with the Hearing & Speech Clinic at the then Children’s Hospital in Halifax.
Wherever Marjorie lived she continuously gave back to her community through volunteering, receiving numerous awards and citations. While living in Moncton in the 1960’s she formed the first Cub Pack with the new Holy Family Church. Hospitals in Springfield, MA and Fort Myers, FL also benefited from her generosity of spirit. After raising five children she went on to devote her skills and compassionate nature to being a Cuddler with Intensive Care at Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax. In later years Marjorie continued volunteer service for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church organizing and making meals with elaborate deserts for after funeral Masses. Neighbors loved and looked forward to birthday and Christmas parties where it was known there would be large, scrumptious annual spreads in her beautifully decorated home and tablescapes. Her wit, style and sense of humor are sorely missed by everyone who loved her.
Marjorie was predeceased by her first husband Rene Chaput, her second husband Floyd Keddy and her daughter Dorothy Simms.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters Claire McDonald and Lucy Broman and her sons Maurice and Gregory Chaput and her younger sister Eleanor Hennessy and many grandchildren.
Appreciating the beauty of Mother Nature, the changing seasons, night skies and the heavens beyond, inquisitively traveling the world and cultivating her bountiful garden were some of Mum’s life long interests and pleasures. That and having a good golf swing. In addition to being a talented artist, creating realistic and detailed drawings and watercolors, the love of beautiful flowers brought Mum joy, especially her pink roses. Now earthly pain and anxiety have come to an end after a long incredibly brave battle with cancer that Mum handled with stoicism, grace and her trademark tenacity.
With love we wish you peace with the angels Mother... you deserve it. Funeral Mass was held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Halifax
