It is with great sadness that the family of Marjorie Elaine Little announce her passing on March 8, 2017, after a brief illness, in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the age of 77 years. Marjorie leaves to mourn her children: Melani (Blaine), Leslie (Kim), and Jamie; her grandchildren: Leslie, Lindsey, George, Riley and Christian; her siblings and their families: sister Valerie and her brothers Anthony, Derrik, Harrold, and brother-in-law Conrad, as well as many relatives and friends throughout the world. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Leslie Little.
Born in Falmouth Trelawney, Jamaica, Marjorie was the eldest of child of Guy Augustus and Gwendolyn (Smart) Ogilvie. Marjorie grew up in Jamaica, married and became a citizen of Canada in 1965. With her pioneering spirit, Marjorie successfully learned the Canadian culture and lifestyle, and readily adapted to the glorious Canadian weather and winters. As her husband was in the military, Marjorie traveled and experienced every province in Canada, and relocated to Calgary, Alberta, once her husband retired from the military.
During her 25 years in Calgary, Marjorie worked for Alberta Family and Social Services, supported and encouraged her husband and children in their own educational, career and life pursuits, became a grandmother, and pursued her own education and career aspirations. Marjorie, already an accountant by trade, embarked on a new professional path, successfully completing her certificate in Career Management at the University of Calgary, and her Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Victoria. Both clients and colleagues alike benefitted from Marjorie’s compassion, patience, kindness and understanding.
Marjorie loved traveling. She traveled to several countries while living in Europe, and continued her love of travel, adventure, learning, new experiences, and possibilities throughout her life. One such trip took her to Halifax to visit a dear friend. The people, scenery and the ocean of this beautiful city beckoned Marjorie to make Halifax her final home.
A kind-hearted, generous, warm and gentle lady, Marjorie was also a proud and doting mother and grandmother. As a gift to her family, Marjorie wrote and published a book detailing her incredible life. A family keepsake to have forever.
Marjorie modeled generosity and what it was to truly love. She had a way of making everyone feel important and leaving them in a better place than before they met her. Those who were fortunate to join Marjorie for one of her tasty meals were not only satisfied with good food, but also received a healthy dose of love. Her laughter was infectious; her smiles were brilliant. She will be greatly missed by all.
Memorial services for Marjorie will be at J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, Nova Scotia on Monday April 3 at 1:00 pm. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in memory of Marjorie Little may be sent to J A Snow Funeral home: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
