

MacDonald (Melanson), Marjorie Kathleen of Halifax, passed away June 16, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Roland MacDonald (2004). Born in Minudie, NS, she was a daughter of the late Cassimer and Levenia (O’Brien) Melanson. She attended the Provincial Normal College (Truro) and Dalhousie University. Marjorie taught in various locations including Kentville and at the School for the Blind in Halifax. After her marriage to Rollie, they lived in Antigonish for over 20 years before moving to Halifax.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Cyril, Curtis, and Layton, and also, recently by her only sister, Gladys Laba (Nov 6, 2013).
We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Lacas, Dr. Foote, and the staff of Maplestone for their professional, loving and compassionate care, especially over the last few weeks. It was very much appreciated. At Marjorie’s request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at a later date, at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in Lower Sackville.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. A. Snow funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (455-0531).
