Marshall Hewitt age 59 of Beaverbank, Nova Scotia passed away comforted and loved by his devoted wife, Brenda and his three loyal children Jacob, Kiera and Leah. Dad was born on November 25th, 1964 in Fogo Island, Newfoundland and was the son of Alma and Roy Hewitt.
Dad grew up in Fogo Island with his seven siblings and was a proud Newfoundlander. His childhood was filled with joyful times playing with his siblings and his dear friends. Dad went to Memorial University of Newfoundland where he received his undergraduate degree in Science. He returned to Fogo Island during the holidays however he could get home, often hitchhiking across the island and finding mischief along the way. While working in Ontario, Dad met his future wife, Brenda. Marshall and Brenda fell in love in Ontario biking, camping and embarking on their adventure of a lifetime as one. Dad and Mom took their adventure back to Newfoundland. They had their first Child, Jacob and shortly afterwards Dad proposed to mom on top of Diamond Hill in Fogo Island as a family of three. Dad conveniently recorded this moment and we watch it often. The love we see in that video as Dad proposes to Mom is the purest kind of love filled with devotion and admiration for his future wife. Mom truly was dads soul soulmate and best friend. She was his true partner in everything they did throughout their lives together. Dad took his adventure to PEI to begin his schooling at the Police Academy and Brenda moved back to Ontario whilst supporting Dad in his dream to be a police officer. Their second child, Kiera was born in Ottawa and Dad often called me his Police Academy girl. Dad got a job in Bridgewater as a police officer but did not stay long as he then received a job at the Halifax Regional Police and the family of four moved to Nova Scotia.
Their third child, Leah was born in Nova Scotia and their family was now complete as a team of 5. Dad was very proud of his three children as he led them through life and offered support and advice with a warm heart. Plus, a lot of lessons on how to use different tools and to push forward throughout the rollercoaster of life. Marshall's three children are a testament to his incredible ability to parent and guide them into adulthood. Always welcoming them home with open arms and a radiating smile… as well as a few stories.
Dad worked for the Halifax Regional Police in many different departments throughout his career. However, his passion for photography was combined with work as he took a course to work in the Forensic Identification Department within the HRP. Dad was very proud to be a police officer and to protect the city of Halifax for 23 years. Dads favorite part of working within the Forensic Identification Department was taking photographs of scenes. Similar to his role within our home, he was often the one that people came to for advice, help or a pep talk within his workplace. When dad retired from the Police Force, he moved to Canada Post where he began his second career as a head of security. Dad enjoyed that he was able to travel and explore different parts of the Maritimes for this work.
At home, dad had a loyal group of friends that adored him and they shared his passion for golfing. During the summer months you could find our dad on the golf course or practicing his swing. His Mulligan Island group of friends were such a source of support, laughter and love for him. At home, you could often find Dad working on projects around the house. Dad was a man who could fix anything and if he didn't know how to do something, trusty youtube always came in handy. Dad built our childhood home in Beaverbank, and created so many incredible memories within it. Dad has made many renovations throughout the years, often with his dear friend Ronnie and his equally as handy son Jacob. If you needed anything, dad was there in a second to fix or build something, or to be a shoulder to lean on.
Dad was our confidant, our protector and our biggest inspiration. If you knew our dad, I hope you consider yourself lucky to be around someone who was incredibly kind and had such a beautiful soul.
Marshall Hewitt is survived by his beautiful wife, Brenda and three children Jacob (Eve), Kiera (Ryan) and Leah.
