

Dooley, Mary Mildred (Millie) - Age 88, passed away peacefully at home on July 7 after a brief period of failing health. Mom’s strength, intelligence and generosity were only equalled by her warmth, kindness and passion for life. She was a fiercely independent woman and a loyal friend with an unwavering love for her grandchildren. She was a graduate of The Truro’s Teacher College and taught school in the late 1940’s at Alder Point Elementary. She then went on to graduate from Mount Saint Bernard College in Antigonish before moving to Halifax where she worked for Maritime Tel and Tel. There she met and fell in love with Joe Dooley who she married in 1951 and left the work force to raise a family. At age 61 she chose to return to the work force where she enjoyed the following eleven years at Park Haven Estates, retiring at age 72. She is survived by her five children, sons Bob (Linda Rodie), Bill (Jennifer McBeath), Patrick (Nicole Frosst) and daughters Nancy (Grabowski), and Peggy. Grand children Damien, Margaret (Matt Curtis), Emma, Bridget and Emmett, step-Grandchildren Jack, Marin and Taylor. Great grandson Jacob; sisters Mary (Carafotes) Massachusetts and Frances (Barrie) Ontario, brothers Chester and Clifton, Cape Breton; Also survived by sister-in-law Pauline Dooley, PEI, brother-in-law Adrian Barrie, CapeBreton and many nieces and nephews. Born in Alder Point, Cape Breton, Mom was the daughter of Pascal LeBlanc and Margaret (McGrath) LeBlanc. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, son-in-law Rick Grabowski , daughter-in-law Lena Healy, sisters Evelyn (Theriault))and Marguerite (Barrie), brothers Bernard, Strickland, and four siblings in infancy. Mom was a devote Catholic and a life time member of the St. John the Baptist CWL. She took great pride in her garden and home. She loved playing bridge and spending time with her girlfriends. She loved to bake and her squares and pies were always eagerly anticipated. She had a life-long passion for skating and curling that carried on from participant to dedicated arm chair athlete. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Monday, July 11th from 7pm to 9pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint John the Baptist Church, 26 Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax on Tuesday, July 12 at 10am with Father Joseph Thomas officiating.
