Mary was born on April 5, 1940, in Goldenville, Nova Scotia, to her loving parents Alice Mildred (Gillen) and Harry James MacEachern.
Throughout her life, she exemplified unwavering grace, strength, kindness, empathy, and love.
Mary always dreamed of helping others, and her calling to become a deaconess led her to study at the Presbyterian Missionary and Deaconess Training School. As a deaconess, she welcomed immigrants at Pier 21 and served communities along the Alaskan Highway. She continued her studies at the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as a registered nurse and treasured that sisterhood throughout her life.
She dedicated herself completely to raising her four children, providing them with everything they needed with her unconditional love and boundless devotion. She embodied a passion for lifelong learning and led by quiet example. She continued her studies at Mount Saint Vincent University toward a degree in Gerontology and also found time to practice piano and bass guitar.
As her children grew older, she returned to nursing with the same steadfast determination—refreshing her skills, working in home care, and later in psychiatry at the Abbie J. Lane. She was a devoted daughter and sister, and throughout her life, she remained a devoted wife, mum, grandma, aunt, and friend.
Those who loved her will always remember her many gifts: her cooking, baking, her eye for decorating, and her sense of style. Most of all, she was always there for those who needed her. She listened and advised with wisdom and care, and offered comfort and understanding.
She will be deeply missed by her family, but they will carry her with them in everything they do. She showed them how to live with courage, kindness, and love.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ormille; children John (Trudy), Christopher (Stephanie), Stephanie (Cris), and Stewart (Leanne); grandchildren Emma, William, Andrew, Ava and Ashley; her sisters Margaret and Marlene and brother Stanley, along with many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life reception will be held Saturday September 6, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at JA Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, NS.
