Christie (Watson) Mary Jane - 67, It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that her family announces that she passed away peacefully, surrounded by family after a short but valiant battle with cancer. Born in Halifax she was the youngest daughter of the late George and Kathryn(Paterson)Watson. Jane grew up in Saint John New Brunswick where she graduated from Saint John High School. She moved to Halifax where she trained at the Halifax Childrens Hospital School of Nursing. There at a Valentine’s dance in 1965 she met her future husband, soul mate and best friend, John Christie of Halifax. She was a member of the nursing Class of 66, a group of women she was so proud to call colleagues and lifetime friends. She practiced at the Childrens Hospital and the IWK for several years before leaving to raise her family. Over the years Jane was involved in many volunteer activities in support of the mentally and physically challenged. Jane is survived by her husband John, her son Ian, brother Barry(Dellores), sister Judy Watson, and sister-in-law Margot Christie. In addition Jane has several nephews, nieces and cousins plus their many children. Those who knew Jane will remember her gentleness, kindness, thoughtfulness and unassuming ways. Her laughter, smiles and giggles could light up a room, her relaxed manner putting people at ease. She had a profound love for children. In promoting the interests of her son and the challenged, she was a force to be reckoned with. Jane had a lifelong love affair with the Saint John River and the “Red House” and “Yellow Cottage” where she enjoyed boating, swimming, camp fires, family get-togethers and sleeping in with John. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff at 8.2 of the QEII and the Palliative Care team. Donations in Jane’s memory may be made to the Regional Residential Services Society, Dalhousie University Faculty of Dentistry or the charity of your choice. There will be visitation Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9pm in JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Hfx NS(902-455-0531). A celebration of Jane’s life will be held on a date to be announced.
