

O’Brien, (Brady) Mary Elizabeth 94, of Halifax, died Friday, December 6,2013 at her residence, Drummond Hall, Halifax, NS. Born in Woodside, she was a daughter of the late Isadore and Elizabeth (McFadden) Brady. Elizabeth attended school in Woodside, Canning, Kentville and Mount St Vincent in Halifax. An education in those days involved horse and wagon from Woodside to Canning and then train (the Blueberry Special) to Kentville. She was employed by Revenue Canada in Halifax until her retirement and then active with credit unions. She married Frank O’Brien in 1960. She was a member of St Agnes Catholic Church, Halifax. Elizabeth enjoyed playing bridge, shopping, walking, lawn bowling, swimming at the Waegwaltic and traveling. For years she was active in Saint Mary’s Lawn Bowls Club and the St. Agnes Bowling League. Aunt Bis (as all the nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews called her) travelled to many parts of the world: the US, across Canada, Scandanavia, the Caribbean, Ireland and more.
She will be missed at ‘Pub Night’ in Cameron Hall. All who knew her remember her with fondness. She was very involved in her family and much loved. She is survived by step-daughter, Betty Guinan (Tom), Halifax; nieces and nephews Mary Bullock, San Antonio,TX; Joe Brady (Faye), Woodside; Tom Brady (Noreen Morrison), New Glasgow; Kaireen Chaytor (Doug), Halifax; William Brady (Collette), Antigonish; Heather Perkins (Alan Idler), Fall River; John Brady (Debbie), Tyne Valley, PEI; Pat Sarsfield Miller (Bill Davidson), Delhaven; Joe Sarsfield, Ottawa; Jerry Sarsfield (Chris), Iowa.; Michele Brady, Toronto; Michael Brady, Atlanta, GA; William Brady, London; Sean Brady (Sue) Niagara Falls, and all the grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, sister, Catherine Sarsfield, and brothers, Jack Brady and Blake Brady.
Following Elizabeth’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Halifax, Father Larry Pitcher officiating with a reception following in St. Agnes Auditorium. A private family interment will be held. Family flowers only.
