

Powers, Mary “Val” (MacKenzie) Passed away peacefully January 7, 2014 in the VG site of the QE 11 hospital. Born in Halifax, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Tremaine) MacKenzie.
Val enjoyed being a stay at home mom. Once the children were raised she ventured back into the work place having a career with Scotia Bank that spanned 25 years.
Everyone who knew Val loved her. She was always pleasant and hospitable to all. She had a very active social life and was well noted for hosting wonderful dinner parties where the guests relished in laughing, singing and the strumming of their instruments.
Val derived pleasure in the simplest things in life. She loved to have her morning coffee while watching the birds nesting in her feeder. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending countless hours tinkering in her garden. She loved swimming and spending every summer at the beach. During the fall she enjoyed following all the local football and hockey games.
Val is survived by her daughters Heather MacDonald (Paul) and Cathy Parker, grandchildren; Destiny and Devin. She was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas, and her brother Douglas.
Visitation will be from 7-9 PM on Friday January 24th in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax where a memorial service will be held on Saturday January 25 at 2 PM with Reverend Kevin Little officiating.
