It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful and sudden passing of Maureen Anne McEachern, at home, on Easter Monday, at the age of 67. She was a devote Catholic and it seems only fitting for her to pass on ‘Monday of the Angel’. Maureen was a constant source of humour and optimism and was always the life of the party. Maureen’s radiance, compassion, intelligence, and grace will be what those who loved her will remember and cherish about her most.
Maureen was born in Toronto, ON shortly after her parents Archy Francis and Margaret Anne McEachern moved from Cape Breton, NS. Not long after Maureen’s birth, the family moved to Detroit, MI, where Maureen’s four brothers Stanley, Gregory, Robert, and Paul were born.
Maureen stayed connected to her Celtic roots, spending her summers growing up back in NS with extended family. As an adult Maureen made the move to NS to start her family. Originally settling in Dartmouth, Maureen raised her four daughters: Mairin, Jessie, Maura, and Kathleen near Saint Peter’s Parish; a chapter of her life that gifted her with lasting memories, and lifelong friendships which enriched her life into her final days. She spent her last ten years in Rockingham, Halifax, working and spending as much of her time as possible with her daughters and grandchildren; Molly, Cameron, Madeleine, Finley, Malcolm, and Mason. The grandchildren all had exceptionally unique and personal connections with their Grandma Maureen; however, the shared memories are filled with times walking to school taking detours to Grandma’s house around the corner to have their pockets filled with treats, and their faces decorated with her pink lipstick.
We are heartbroken having lost her so soon, but are finding peace in knowing she is in the loving arms of her parents, and those who have gone before her. Memorial donations can be made to the IWK Hospital, or simply cuddle your loved ones, light a candle, or turn on some fiddle music in her honour.
