Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, she was the daughter of Percy Francis, a career soldier, and his wife Della. She was pre-deceased by a sister Rose Rodriguez, brothers James Francis, Chilliwack, B.C. and Gordon Francis, Shad Bay, and is survived by brothers Douglas Francis, Petite Riviere, and Gerald Francis, Halifax.
She was educated in Halifax schools before marriage and the raising of a daughter, now Patricia Schmidt-Valdez, Las Vegas, Nevada and a son, Douglas Roche, Ontario.
In later years, she married William Davidson and they lived in Bedford for many years. These were pleasant times. They loved the water and owned a motorboat that was in frequent use to enjoy the sights and sounds provided by the local waterways and the opportunity to entertain friends aboard and join others of this persuasion, in the many outings along out coast in the area.
She was an avid gardener and flowers, both indoors and out, were a constant in her life. She loved nature, both viewing it and reading about it and was a devoted bird-feeder almost to a fault.
Her early artistic flair naturally led her to be interested in crafts like needlework of every size and shape and in which she excelled with a passion and thoroughly enjoyed the critical acclaim from all who saw and enjoyed her work. She certainly was an artist in this field.
The real sense in her life was a life-long relationship of love and respect with her local friends, nieces, nephews and in particular, a dear grandson, David Schmidt and his wife Catherine, Minnesota. These were all abiding affairs that never wavered.
A recent attending physician, after a spirited conversation with Monya, rather succinctly summed up her presence when he said to her “You are an exceptionally fortunate lady. You are 94 years of age and so obviously still with it”. Yes, she was still with it right to the end and she will always be remembered. Cremation will take place. There will be no visitation and funeral arrangements will be a very private family matter.
Special thanks are extended to the medical staffs at both the Halifax Infirmary and the Dartmouth General Hospital. Please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
