John Murray Hemeon, age 88, died peacefully on July 3rd in the VG Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born in Milton, the son of Leon and Esther (Merry) Hemeon. For 53 years, before moving to Armdale in 2013, he lived in Timberlea.
Murray is survived by his wife, Freda (Shields); son, John (Michelle); daughter, Jennifer (Thomas Garus); and grandchildren, April Hemeon, Benjamin and Jeremy Garus.
Murray was employed by the Federal Public Service. He had two enduring interests: war history and cars of all descriptions. Highlights of his retirement include jaunts to Florida and trips to Ontario where he visited his son and family; attendance at his grandsons’ soccer games; and the daily meetings with his friends at the Halifax Shopping Centre. For the longstanding support of these friends, Murray’s family is grateful.
The family would like to express appreciation for the skilled and compassionate care of Dr. Robert Scovil and the medical and nursing staff at the Emergency Department and the VG. MICU.
Murray will be remembered by all who knew him as a gentle, kind man who saw the best in everybody and every situation. His glass was always half full.
Friends are invited to remember Murray, honour his life, and connect with his family at a reception at 8 Anchor Drive on July 15th from 7 to 9 p.m.
Donations in memory of Murray could be made to Northwood Adult Day Program, 1 S -130 Eileen Stubbs Avenue, Dartmouth NS B3B 2C4.
As expressed in Gordon Light’s familiar hymn, Murray’s spirit lives on.
She comes sailing on the wind,
her wings flashing in the sun;
on a journey just begun,
she flies on.
And in the passage of her flight,
her song rings out through the night,
full of laughter, full of light,
she flies on
