Born in Bridgewater, he was the first son of Catherine (Hebb) Legge and the late James “Jim” Legge. Growing up in Mahone Bay, he was always surrounded by good friends, especially Bruce, Chelsea, and Jonathan, and had countless happy memories from those years.
In addition to his mother (aka “Cathy Dolla Billz”), Nick will be dearly missed by his lady friend and dance partner of 12 years, Laurena MacDonald; brother Thomas (Irene) of Cherryville, British Columbia; sister Alexandra “Tootsie” (Davor) of Halifax; parents-in-law MC and Lawrence MacDonald of Brook Village; brother-in-law David MacDonald, nieces Rebecca and Abby, and Sheena MacDonald of Belleisle, New Brunswick; along with his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Nick worked as a Fire Control Systems Technician for the Fleet Maintenance Facility at the HMC Dockyard in Halifax for 15 years. Every spring, he looked forward to playing softball with his work crew, The Mutineers. He loved life and enjoyed making people laugh in his mischievous way, always with a twinkle in his eye. Loyal and brilliant, “Nickybird” was deeply loved by those who knew him and will be warmly remembered for his ridiculous sense of humour, his infectious smile, his generosity, and his affectionate headlocks.
Nick enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing, gardening, and working in the yard. He brought tremendous joy to every family gathering and loved hanging out in the kitchen, cooking and playing cribbage. He also enjoyed playing and watching sports (especially the Habs) and dancing with his lady (despite her being a Caps fan). He treasured visits with his “crazy” Cape Breton family - the MacDonald and Beaton clans. In the wise words of his father Jim, “Who had more fun than us?”.
The family would like to sincerely thank everyone for the outpouring of love, fond memories, and unwavering support. Donations in memory of Nick can be made to Feed Nova Scotia or to your local food bank. Cremation has taken place. A celebration to honour his life and his memory will be held at a later date.
Love you always Nick! Kkpp, Laurena
