Patricia Mary Hiscock

September 25, 1939 – January 11, 2026
Obituary of Patricia Mary Hiscock
IN THE CARE OF

JA Snow Funeral Home

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Patricia Mary Hiscock (née Dempsey), born September 25, 1939, in Bishop Falls, Newfoundland, who passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Patricia was predeceased by her loving parents, James Dempsey and Vera (Greene) Dempsey, and by her beloved only child, Christopher John Hiscock.

She leaves to mourn her daughter-in-law, Tilly Hiscock; her cherished grandchildren, Joshua Adam Hiscock and Stephanie (Seamus) Garagan; her sisters, Helen (George) Simmons and Jane (Patrick) Donnelly; as well as her dear nephews and nieces, Bud, Deanna, Kyle, Krista, and Tim. She will also be fondly remembered by extended family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness and service.

Patricia was a proud graduate of Mount Saint Vincent University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Secretarial Studies. She went on to dedicate her professional career to the IWK Health Centre, supporting the vital work of healthcare in her community.

Her compassion and selflessness were most evident in her lifelong volunteerism and community involvement. Patricia was an active and devoted member of Girl Guides of Canada for over 70 years, mentoring and inspiring generations of young women. Her extraordinary dedication earned her numerous recognitions, including the distinguished Beaver and Mayflower Awards. She was also honoured nationally as a recipient of the 125th Commemorative Medal of Honour, recognizing her outstanding volunteer service to Canada.

Patricia was modest in her generosity, always giving of herself without expectation of accolades or recognition. Though introverted by nature, she was known for her quick wit, big heart, and gentle soul. An avid reader, Patricia was rarely without a book in hand and was lovingly known among family and friends for her constant love of reading.

Patricia’s life was defined by quiet service, steadfast compassion, and deep devotion to family and community. Her legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to live on in the many lives she shaped.

In reflection of Patricia’s compassionate spirit, the family encourages those wishing to honour her memory to consider making a donation to their local hospitals, food banks, or to Girl Guides of Canada.

She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
