Born in Schiedam, The Netherlands, Paulina immigrated to Canada in 1954 with her husband, Bastiaan, who was seeking a better life for his family. Her entry to Canada was through Pier 21, NS. The family travelled by train to Ottawa where they settled for 50 years before moving to Penticton, BC in 2004 and then to Halifax, NS in June of 2013.
Paulina and Bastiaan shared 72 years together as husband and wife. Their loyalty and love for one another was plain to see. Their commitment was always to be together, supporting and encouraging one another.
Paulina didn’t seek the spotlight but was a hard worker behind the scenes. She was employed for 22 years with the Ottawa School Board.
Paulina was a soldier within The Salvation Army and thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity to participate commencing in her childhood and continuing until she physically wasn’t able to do what she loved. However, her friendly disposition and welcoming smile endeared her to others.
Family was extremely important to Paulina. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were deeply loved, as were nieces and nephews. She enjoyed every occasion to interact with them and always looked forward to their visits.
Her gentle spirit and sense of humor will be deeply missed. But her legacy of love for her God and love for her family will live on.
Paulina was the last of her siblings to remain
