

Helms, Pauline Elizabeth, of Halifax, died suddenly on March 17th at the QEII, Halifax Infirmary site. Born in Halifax, April 11, 1924, Pauline was the daughter of John Chisholm Helms and Norah (Smith). She was employed with Nova Scotia Savings and Loan for 45 years, starting as a clerk and eventually retiring as Vice President and Secretary of the company. During her lifetime, Pauline was generous with her time and gave back much to the community. She was an active member of the Boy Scouts of Canada and served as ‘Akela’ to the 16th Halifax Troop (Canadian Martyr’s) for many years. She was also actively involved in The Business and Professional Women’s Association and served as a mentor for many young women. Pauline served on the Board of the St Vincent de Paul Society and was an active member of both Canadian Martyr’s and St Agnes Church. “Polly” will be greatly missed by her brother, Philip, her niece Jean (Albert Mills), her nephew Stephen (Monica) and great nephew Christopher, all of Dartmouth, as well as her cousins in both Canada and the US. She was predeceased by her sister Sarah Jean and recently by her sister-in-law, Sue Anne Helms. Visitation will be at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, B3S0E1 (455-0531) on Thursday, March 21 between 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Canadian Martyrs Church on Friday, March 22 at 11am, on Inglis Street. Interment will take place at a later date at Chebogue Point Cemetery, Yarmouth, NS. No flowers by request but if you wish, donations may be made to CNIB or Hope Cottage. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the ICU unit at the QEII, especially R.N.’s Cindy and Pam, Dr Minor and Father Owen Connolly, for the compassion and care you showed to all of us. We would especially like to thank Ron and Michelle for always being there, and her friends at Parkland Estates, in particular her dear friend Marion.
