It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Philip (Phil) Beeler, age 88, who passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026. Phil lived a life defined by deep devotion to his family, a commitment to serving others, and a sense of humour that brought laughter to every room he entered.
Phil was born on March 7, 1938, in Upper Canard, Kings County, NS, to Gladys (Porter) and Clifford Beeler, the youngest of five children. He cherished his time in the Annapolis Valley, and his devotion to his parents was a hallmark of his character throughout their lives.
After attending schools in Upper Canard and Kentville, Phil moved as a teenager to western Canada to work for Canadian Pacific Railways. He later returned to Nova Scotia and served as a dedicated member of the Halifax Police for seven years before embarking on a long and fulfilling career in the insurance industry with London Life and the Phil Beeler Insurance Agency Limited, serving clients in both Halifax and the Annapolis Valley. Phil had a gift for connecting with people and a remarkable ability to remember clients he had met throughout the years.
Phil was an exceptionally proud member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years. He began his Masonic journey with Bedford #104, then Scotia #20 in Canning and Kentville #58. Upon returning to Halifax, he became a member of Keith Lodge #17, St. Andrews Renown Chapter R.A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Halifax, the Royal Order of Scotland, and Philae Shriners, of which he was honoured to serve as Illustrious Potentate in 1992. His involvement brought him into friendship with members across Canada and the United States, connections he treasured deeply. Phil was also a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star for nearly 60 years, serving as Grand Representative of Washington State and Maine. The friendships he formed through these organizations were among the most meaningful of his life.
As a dedicated volunteer, Phil served on both the Annapolis Valley and provincial boards of the CNIB. He was honoured to receive a Volunteer Service Award in recognition of his dedicated service in support of the NS-PEI Division Board of Directors, and he took great pride in his role as a major fundraiser for the organization.
A member of Bethany United Church, Phil looked forward to connecting with fellow parishioners each week, sharing a joke and a good conversation with everyone he met.
Phil held deep pride in his Indigenous heritage and his family's roots in Elmwood, formerly known as the New Germany Indian Reserve 19A.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Irene (Rushton) Beeler; son Stephen Beeler; daughter Joy Grennan (Damon); daughter Susan Leadbetter (Stephen); and daughter Maureen Wentzell (Tamir Wainer). He leaves behind grandchildren Mark, Grant, Jennie, Robert, Nick, Jessie, and Evan, and great-grandchildren Marie, Henry, Luke, Joel, Stella, Kyler, Charlee, Robert Jr., and Archer. He is also survived by his brother Byron Beeler of Guelph, Ontario and sister Betty Buchanan of Moncton, New Brunswick, as well as cherished nieces and nephews who kept in close touch with him throughout the years. Phil and Irene were also blessed with the enduring friendship of Muriel and Bill Hale, whose warmth and support meant the world to them both.
Phil was predeceased by his parents; his sister Muriel Northcott and brother-in-law Andy Northcott; his brother Don Beeler, sister-in-law Margaret Beeler; brother-in-law, Bob Buchanan, his stepson Stephen Wentzell; his grandson Mark; and his great-grandson Ryland.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, beginning with an Order of Eastern Star Service and a Masonic Service. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Both services will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. A live stream of the service will be available.
In honour of Phil's memory, donations may be made to Shriners Children's Canada , Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, Nova Scotia or charity of your choice.
